Damaris Mutia

Ms Mutia is an early career scientist in the field of Physical Oceanography. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Her main research interests span from operational oceanography, ocean modelling, and understanding ocean circulation and heat budgets. As part of building her career, she has enrolled and participated in both national and international training in the field of Physical Oceanography.

Damaris has gained vast skills in remote sensing and data analysis techniques from the early career scientist capacity-building aspect of the SOLSTICE project. From this training, she led an internationally authored publication entitled “Productivity driven by Tana River discharge is spatially limited in the Kenyan Coastal waters” that was recently published in Ocean and Coastal Management Journal.

Her memorable SOLSTICE experience was when she travelled to Plymouth, UK, for a one-month exchange programme as she did data analysis and manuscript preparation with scientists at Plymouth Marine Laboratory.
